Camping Expedition
This week our year 9's completed their camping expedition.
We got dropped off by minibus at Edale in the Peak District where we hiked up Jacob's Ladder onto the top of Kinder Scout. From here we walked all across the top of the Western skyline of Kinder exploring the rock formations, Kinder downfall and forgetting a rucksack and having to go back for it (Joe!!).
Then we dropped off the North Western edge of Kinder and found the plane wreckage on Burnt hill. A couple of hills later and we peaked on Cown Edge to finally walk down to the campsite.
Once we arrived we had lots of jobs to do - get the tents up, get a fire going and collect enough wood for it and to cook tea for everyone. Joe made a great chicken curry for us all on the camp cookers while Sean did just about everything else!!!!
We cooked cheesy garlic bread and naan breads on the fire and also toasted some marshmallows while we listened to the England game!
Finally it went dark at about 11pm and so the torches came out to play a few games of manhunt in the forest!
The next we had some early risers at 6am so we got brews and breakfast on - bacon and sausage sandwiches. We packed up the campsite and then set off down to the river to have a paddle and try to spot some fish. A short walk later and we found the minibus waiting where some of us had a snooze on the way back to school!!
It was a great couple of days and the year 9's were superb. Hey coped with the challenges brilliantly and hopefully this will be an expedition they will always remember. They should be proud of themselves, I know I am proud of them!
Mr Hopkins
Also a big thank you to Mr Wiswell for supporting the expedition!
