Camping Trip 2!

Earlier this week, our 2nd group completed their camping expedition.
This time, on a beautiful sunny day, we trekked from Mellor Golf Club up over the railway line to the Peak Forest Canal. Once on the canal we followed the locks through Marple Bridge chatting to lots of canal barge owners going through the locks. From here we had a pit stop in the enormous Brabyns Park before walking over the Iron Bridge to Etherow Country Park.
At Etherow Country park, after meeting the ducks, we had one more pit stop for an ice cream energiser ready for the big hill we had to tackle next!
It took some time to get up the big hill but a mixture of the ice cream and a few bags of Haribo got us through!
From there it was all downhill to the campsite where we put tents up and prepared our gear before cooking a lovely chilli with naan breads cooked on the fire.
We built the fire up for the evening and sat and chatted with cake and hot chocolate and then marshmallows before watching a beautiful sunset and then  playing a great couple of games of manhunt in the dark.
The next morning it was unfortunately tipping down with rain but that didn't dampen our spirits as we cooked a proper fried breakfast - beans, sausage, bacon and egg to fuel us for packing up the campsite and walking out to the river to skim stones.
From there we trekked out to Lymefield visitor centre to our extraction point.
What a great couple of expeditions we have had this year, our children have been amazing and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and experience.
I would just like to say thank you to Boarfold scout campsite for having us, 5th Stalybridge Scout Group for letting me borrow some of their camping gear, Mr Heaton for dropping us off and picking us up each trip and Mr Roscoe and Mr Atkins for supporting me on the two trips.
Another year of camping done and I'm already looking forward to next year!
